In 2015, we will have reached the target year for the UN's Millenium Development Goals whose #1 objective is halving the proportion of undernourished people in developing countries. Even though this target is within reach, about 805 million people are still undernourished and the question of food safety and security is still one of the International Community's biggest challenges: by 2050, the world population could hit 9 billion and food demand is estimated to increase by 70%.
With the theme – Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life – our summer school endeavors to create a discussion platform where students from different backgrounds can come together to discuss, debate on the challenges confronting food safety and sustainability and look at best practice models and future guidelines by directly interfacing and interacting with key stakeholders at the Expo event in Milan.
The topics of the summer school on the theme Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life shall be dealt across the following sub-themes:
The summer school with closely interface with the activities and events offered at the Expo event so as to provide our students a hands-on immersive experience on nutrition.
